“Dionissios Mantzavinos  “<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

\"DionissiosProf. Dionissios Mantzavinos was appointed in fall 2001 to the post of Assistant Professor of Wastewater Engineering in the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Crete, Greece and became Associate Professor in 2006 and Full Professor in 2010. In March 2013, he was appointed Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Patras, Greece. He graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1991) and then joined the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology at Imperial College, UK where he graduated with an MSc\/DIC in 1993 followed by a PhD\/DIC in 1996 under the supervision of Profs A.G. Livingston and I.S. Metcalfe. His PhD thesis was on the integrated treatment of industrial wastewaters by wet oxidation and biological processes. In 1998, he joined the School of Chemical Engineering at Edinburgh University where he was appointed as Research Fellow working on fuel cells technology. In 1999, he was appointed as Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Leeds University. He is a Chartered Engineer (1992) and Member of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (EurIng, 1995). He is also an Associate Member of IChemE (1994) and a Member of AIChE (1994). Since 1996, he has been Member of the International Water Association. He has authored or co-authored 160 journal papers as well as several conference publications and has over 6400 citations. He presently serves as an Executive Editor to the Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology (Wiley) and Associate Editor to Water Research (Elsevier).<\/p>\n

Prof. Mantzavinos’ research activities lie in the area of Environmental Chemical Engineering with focus in process development for water\/wastewater treatment and environmental catalysis. In particular, he is\/has been involved in the:<\/p>\n

– Treatment of industrial wastewaters and disinfection of municipal wastewaters by advanced oxidation processes (Fenton oxidation, ozonation, solar photocatalysis, sonochemical degradation, wet oxidation, electrolysis, photoelectrocatalysis).
\n– Treatment of agro-industrial effluents by physical and chemical processes.
\n– Integrated physical, chemical and biological wastewater treatment.
\n– Identification, quantification and treatment of micro-pollutants and pathogens in waters.
\n– Alternative (natural) wastewater treatment systems.
\n– Water recycle and reuse and waste valorization.
\n– Materials for fuel cells.<\/p>\n
