He ogtained his Ph.D. degree in 1998 at Portland State University (USA), and completed habilitation (with honours) in 2007 at Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Gda\u0144sk Univeristy of Technology. In 2013 he became a professor of technical sciences, and a full professor in 2016. From 2012 to 2016 he acted as a cooperation and innovation vice chacellor of Gda\u0144sk Univeristy of Technology.
