The main research directions are village and town domestic sewage treatment and resource utilization, advanced domestic sewage treatment and energy saving and consumption reduction, plateau water pollution control and ecological restoration of water environment, and drinking water safety guarantee. Presided over more than 30 national natural science foundation projects, water special projects, sub projects of science and technology support plan and key R & D plans, as well as ministry and provincial projects. Published more than 90 papers, and obtained 14 invention patents. Presided over the compilation of “Pollutant Discharge Standards for Rural Domestic Sewage Treatment Facilities” (DB32/3462-2020) and “Guidelines for Appropriate Technologies and Construction of Village Domestic Sewage Treatment in Jiangsu Province”. Won two second prizes of Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, one Gold Award of Invention and Entrepreneurship Award (Project Award) of China Invention Association, and one Excellent Award of China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Achievement Award.
