Sergio Ponsa is a Chemical Engineer, Master in Environmental Technology and PhD in Environmental Sciences. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Department of Agro-food Industries and Environmental Science, University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (Spain).
He is the Head of the Research Group of Coordinator of the Research Group of Biodiversity, Ecology and Environmental Technology and the Director of the BETA Technological Center at Vic (Barcelona, Spain) where a multidisciplinary team of more tan 30 researchers is conducting outstanding research in 4 different research areas: Environmental Technologies; Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity; Aquatic Ecology and Biodiversity; and Agro-food Industries. He is also lecturing at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the MSc of Chemical Industry. He has been involved and led more than 50 contracts with companies and Public Administrations. He is currently coordinating 2 international projects (Life+ and Interreg MED) and participating in other 6 European projects (H2020, Life+ and Interreg), all of them in the field of environmental technologies and sustainability.
His expertise is related with sustainability and environmental technologies, with a special focus in the treatment and valorisation of organic wastes (solid and liquid), the production of bioenergy, the recovery of nutrients and high value subproducts and Life Cycle Assessment/Carbon Footprint studies.
